Time not wasted [19 Jul 2005|06:03pm]
[ mood | contemplative ]

Yea, it's been a while because a) I'm lame, and 2) I have been posting more in Xanga.  Yes, I'm a bad LJer...but I'm thinking I might like Xanga better.  So, in case you haven't been there yet, this is it.  If nothing else, I will continue to post my pictures over here.

So I have been reading a lot of Harry Potter.  Go figure, eh?  I spent several hours yesterday, and a bit more than four hours today and now I'm done.  I really liked this one.  Isn't it terrible how as you're reading it, you're straining to get it done as speedily as possible, then when you're done (okay, for both of the "done's" in that sentence, I first wrote "dun"), it's like...a bummer.  I might just have to go back and start at the beginning again, now that I'm in the mood.  I'll prolly finish Peter Pan first, though.

I'm having issues typing.

This is the second to last week before master classes.  We have been wearing our pre-pointes, which are weird, but undoubtedly will be good for us.  We are starting the Sugarplum Fairy variation, as each summer we learn a real variation.  This one is hard, especially since I have new shoes.  If these shoes don't soften up a bit, I'm going to deem them an unperfect shoe and continue my search.  Next on the list is Bloch Serenadess, which I would buy from Monica.  The appeal of these is that they have a wide platform, which is good for stability.  When I tried them on at Grand Jete, I kind of didn't even consider them because they're...Serenades.  I'm thinking I'm just going to try one pair of everything at Grand Jete, then make my decision....  Have I mentioned I hate my feet?

I'm trying to plan an outing with Sindy to go see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory because that, of course, would be an awesome activity.

I'm watching Return to Oz.  I suggest you do likewise.

And the fun begins [14 Jul 2005|04:31pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]

I STARTED AP TODAY.

Aren't you proud of me?

I didn't even cry.

Granted, I started with the littlest packet and that only took me 45 minutes to read, but any amount of time spent on this crap is a step in the right direction for me, don't you think?

I think I may have decided that this course might, just might not kill me...it's just gonna take some real good time management. I think I can squeeze in an hour and a half of homework time a night, perhaps more. Then there's always weekends, particularly Sunday. When did that turn into the day where there's the most time for work?

I'm off to be smiley because I did something productive today.

I think I deserve a popsicle, don't you?

Your first name of Linda has made you a hard worker with a meticulous sense of detail. You have a great deal of patience and independence, and you can be relied upon to complete your undertakings. You could be inventive along scientific or practical lines. You are stable, trustworthy, homeloving, and logical in practical matters, but rather unresponsive to suggestions from others. I even surprise myself with how boring I am [13 Jul 2005|09:34pm]
[ mood | dorky ]

Wore the pre-pointes today. They're...awkward...especially since I've already had pointe shoes. I'll prolly eventually get used to them....

I finished another book. Just Peter Pan left now. I think it's great how much I've been reading this summer...makes me feel like I'm not wasting my time so much.

I think I am obliging myself to start AP tomorrow...at least the reading. Who should I start with? Maybe the super fat one (don't remember who that is), cuz I want to get that one over with....

I'm getting more and more boring...and I might even surprise myself and want to switch totally over to Xanga...but I don't know if I could do that to you. I might just be lame and copy/paste entries so they're the same in both places. I have to say that Xanga has better currents.

Supper calls. Later.

Can you say I ♥ Grishko? [12 Jul 2005|06:51pm]
[ mood | goodness it's hot out ]

I got the items I requested from the library. One of them was a little girl dance movie. This one is special. I had remembered that there was one video I got when I was little where they taught you variations from Sleeping Beauty and I got mad because I couldn't do the dances (I hadn't yet started dance). Well, I could never find it again, so I decided to request it so I could have my turn before someone else got it. I watched it last night and found out it was the famous 'pointe, flex' video, the one that we have a home movie of me watching and following along with rapt attention. Before she got to the actual pointing and flexing in the warm up, I realized this was that movie...because I recognized the woman's feet; the last time I had this movie was when I was four, and I remember the feet. Sheesh. I'm pretty sure this was the first ballet movie I checked out, and was that which spurred my interest in ballet.

New pointe shoes. I have worn them for one class. Everything's lookin' good so far! Fulfilling Jenny's request, I have my hair down in these pictures. I'm taking more pictures tomorrow in addition to some with pre-pointes tomorrow after class (hair will be properly secured).

Once in a lifetime...Collapse )

Have a nice day!

How many more days?! [05 Jul 2005|03:17pm]
[ mood | bored ]

Yesterday I woke up well after noon. That's just terrible. Went to the fireworks at Blaine and that was pretty much it. I woke up at 10:00 to an alarm this morning.

My leotard and skirt shipped today! They should be here by Thursday. You'll see pictures...don't you worry. ;-)

Hey I took this quiz...

Take the quiz: "What type of dance are you most like or would you most enjoy?"

Ballet
You are Ballet! You are most like this form of dance or would enjoy doing it. Ballet is a beautiful graceful art, just like you! You can be quite serious at times, as ballet requires excellent strength, flexibility, technique, and talent. You are very hardworking, dedicated, and loyal. You look delicate and soft on the outside, but inside you are incredibly strong and capable. You are one of a kind and will settle for nothing but the best-and you deserve it too!

He he.

Just quickly about my day...it was pretty good. I finished a whole book, did physical therapy, went to church, and went grocery shopping. We have so much food now. Yea. That's all. Have a nice night!

I want my dance [01 Jul 2005|12:31am]
[ mood | thoughtful ]

My mom got my pre-pointes today! Man, they look weird. They feel so cool to wear, though, because they feel like either majorly soft pointes or weird flats, but when you look at them, they look pretty much like pointe shoes. It's awesome to pointe your foot and have the "shank" actually bend under your arch. At least for me, that never happens in pointe shoes, though it might now, because my new pointes have a 3/4 shank. I'm going to be doing so much sewing after I get all these shoes checked. That's four shoes to sew. Also, the eighth is the day we go back to class, and is also the clarinet bonfire (which, according to some, sounds like we're all going to burn our clarinets). I'm tentatively excited about that, because it's going to be awkward and I know it, because a) everyone already knows each other, and 2) they are all older than me...but it will not be deathly because Kathryn will be there with me.

I called my physical therapist earlier and told her to close my chart. That means I'm done. That's a big deal. It means I'm on my own as far as recovery and also means I'm not in pain as to bring me back to treatment. I have been spending over an hour on physical therapy every day, because I have nothing better to do. I really don't like doing it, but I know it is the key to recovery (okay, that sounded really lame). I want/have to get better. I'm counting on being able to dance full out this whole year. Last year was so weenie and I would really like to not have to re-live that situation. I guess I'll be starting out cautious, so that might help.

My sleep is so screwed up. Shouldn't really matter until I have to be up at 6:30 for dance after the holiday....

Well it's July (and Canada Day if that means anything to you), and if I really felt ambitious, I might start my AP homework soon. I'm not going to find myself frazzled if it takes longer than I think it will, so I'm going to start earlier than August. How much earlier is yet to be determined.

Have a good day.

CAUTION: This entry contains discussion of pointe shoes...read at your own risk [28 Jun 2005|08:27pm]
[ mood | hopeful ]

So this evening I went back to Grand Jete and the lady there is like, "Did I just see you?" So I told her my unhappinesses with the Gambas and what I was sort of looking for. I won't explain everything because you wouldn't get it, though I should, because there is a warning on this entry and I'm not to be held liable for any injuries sustained from reading this. Ha ha. So the first thing she pulled out was a Bloch Serenade, which is a notoriously hard shoe that the girls with high arches at dance get. I was quite surprised. Much to my surprise (or confusion), I could get on the box of them. I asked her what was up with that (in more words) and she said that with the Sonatas that I had so many pairs of (I could never get on the box), even though they were a 3/4 shank (is supposed to assist with getting on the box), where the nails were placed I guess made it more difficult for me. Nobody ever told me that! Wow...you learn somthing new every day. After that, I also tried a Bloch Synergy and Alpha, then a Capezio Glisse and Tendu I, then a Grishko Ulanova I and 2007, then a Freed something or other. If you didn't count, that's eight different kinds of shoes, not to mention different sizes or some. She brought out quite the pile to begin with.... In the end, I came out with a pair of Grishko 2007s which, if you didn't know, is the same kind of shoe I had as my first pair of pointe shoes and are hanging above my bed. It's so silly that I spent so much time on the horrid Sonatas only to come back to where I started. They are just a full size bigger. Talk about irony. I'll post a picture of them as soon as I take one. ;-) However, I can't show them to Laura to get them checked for a long time because we don't have dance until the 7th because of the Fourth of July. Bummer. Same story with the pre-pointes, which don't come in until later this week. Well, I think I have said all I need to say about these shoes...I'll add more later if I think of something else.... He he. Bye bye!

It's raining, it's pouring... [27 Jun 2005|06:41pm]
[ mood | rushed ]

This morning at dance, the power went out. We danced by the emergency lights for maybe 40 minutes. We kinda hummed and just counted out the exercises. After the power came back on, we left the lights off for a while still. He he. We did some of Grade 3 (not ghastly amounts as Shannon did something to her leg and wished to abstain from jumping as to not risk prolonging injury as her test looms...) and did pointe for a little bit. My shoes are dead again. Imagine that. Gosh. These Gambas were such a fabulous idea, but they really aren't holding together for me. I'm bummed. Mostly because of the fact that I'm now ducking out of the happy Gamba club. =( I'm going back to Grand Jete either tomorrow or Saturday for a "gimme everything you've got" pointe shoe try on session. It's going to take a while and I'm not going to leave until I find something that I can get over the box on that is a regular pointe shoe that I'm going to have to break in. I miss that.... I hate my feet.

Okay, the tornado sirens are going off, so I'm going to leave. Later.

HOLY WOW [25 Jun 2005|10:46pm]
[ mood | content beyond belief ]

I honestly don't think I have done so much fun stuff in one day in possibly my whole life. Everything was awesome. The original plan was to go to Grand Jete with Robin and Monica to get pre-pointes. Janette ended up meeting us down there, and we got to pick out a new leo for Monica (mine won...it's sooooo pretty). I got new flats, and the pre-pointes will be coming in sometime this week. I'm really excited. After we got all of the finances figured out, we went to lunch at Cafe Latte, which was down the street a little. Good food, for real. Then we went back to the Grand Jete parking lot and drove (well, Robin drove, but you get it) back to Monica's, where I remained. Monica and I then journeyed on to Shannon's grad party, which was fun. Then we went to Monica's cousin's grad party (that I didn't know, but oh well). Then we went to see this speaker at Monica's church. Then (notice there are a lot of then's) we went to JoAnn Fabrics to pick out fabric for the sundress Monica is making me for my birthday and came to the fabulous conclusion that her's is going to be just the opposite of mine (there is a base color and an accent and on her's it will be reversed). I'm excited. Then we went to Marshall Field's so Monica could buy pink and orange tank tops. Then we came back to Monica's and she put on (with some help) her massive Gone With the Wind Scarlett barbeque dress that she got custom made. Just so you get an idea, the hoop is about four feet across. It's so awesome. Then my mom eventually showed up and fawned for a while, and now I'm home and really happy. This was such a wonderful day. I'll be leaving soon to bask in the awesomeness and sew elastics on my flats.

He he.

Having a life all the time would be a pretty darn cool thing. =)

Hot stuff [23 Jun 2005|06:44pm]
[ mood | cheerful ]

Had dance yesterday. Gosh it was hot. Grade 3 for the whole two and a half hours again. Afterwards I went with Alix to the Como Zoo. That was fun. Then I slept over there and we went to Rosedale this morning. Now I'm home and the house is clean because Brianna and Chris are coming over. Only half the posse is within three hundred miles of here...and Kathryn is out of the country and Sindy is out of the state. Gosh. I'm so lame.

It's really hot out. Sheesh.

Dance tomorrow again. Then on Saturday we're gonna try really hard to go to Grand Jete. I want my pre-pointe shoes! Then I could sew them over the weekend and wear them on Monday!

I'm off. I'll be on later.

MY PHOTOBUCKET LIVES [20 Jun 2005|04:35pm]
[ mood | content ]

Saturday was Laura's grad party. Yea, that was sorta fun. The food was good and the caterers' daughter is really cute. I lived on Swedish Fish, dinner pillow mints, and cake all day. Ew. Bad combo.

Yesterday was so perfect. It was so nice out. I finished Dancer right when I woke up and started Digital Fortress, which is a really good book (I finished it a little bit ago). I read pretty much all day other than we went to Camille's for supper.

Dance again today. We did Grade 3 for the whole two and a half hours again. Janette was teaching because Laura was gone. It got really hot, so we shut the lights off for a while and danced in the dark. That was fun. I came home and PICKED UP MY ROOM. Then I read some more. Now I don't have any more books. Bummer.

It's rainy outside. I have my jammies on. Good times.

I'm going to Grand Jete on Wednesday to get my pre-pointe shoes along with Robin and Monica. I'm sooooo excited.
